Are you ready?

I must apologize. I have been so very busy I haven't had anytime to write in my blog, let alone visit any one else. I've been very reminiscent, so I thought I'd let you know what my chaotic life has been like. Are you ready?

Ian has been having a difficult time at school. I've gotten many calls from the school, because he keeps going into the office complaining of being sick, but he's fine at home. Then this weekend... It was horrible! Ian was cranky, angry, grumpy, fighting with everyone and everything. Then he had anxiety attacks that were so bad, that I could not reach him. He couldn't hear anything I said. I was so frustrated! I did finally get him calmed, but it took awhile.

Monday he was much better. Then on Tuesday I got a call from the school psychologist. We had a very long conversation, where, by the end I'm sure we both were highly irritated with each other. I was very upset with her and decided I better start looking up info on IDEA and IDEA 2004 as well as info on IEP's. I know quite a bit, having done this many times, but she is new, doesn't know me and was acting like I didn't know anything. At least that's how I was feeling as I was talking to her. Then I get a call from my son's doctor at Children's. He agreed with me that most likely Ian has been having anxiety attacks. He thinks that Ian has been trying to hold it together at school and then he finally just "lost it". We will see how he does this weekend.

Today I had a meeting with Ian's psychologist. She thinks that Ian might have pediatric Bipolar. This is something we've talked about before, which I and his doctor at Children's have always ruled out. However, after this weekend, I'm not so sure anymore. Ian was so different. The paranoia, the hallucinations, the anger...

So I have been trying to research laws and pediatric bipolar besides living our day to day lives as well as dealing with Ian, the school and the doctors! On top of that, I've also come down with a cold!! Just what I needed. Hmmm, think stress might be involved?

Looking back I've written quite a bit, but I've left out so much. I wanted to update you and apologize for not checking in with everyone. I think you'll understand why now.

This weekend I'm going away to a women's retreat for some much needed R and R. It will be a nice break before jumping back in with both feet.

This weekend will be a good getaway for you. The Lord will comfort you and guide you, as you well know. And if you need another break, some girlfriends and I are going to South Beach the weekend of your birthday. Join us.
Love you.

Oh Turtles I am so sorry to hear about all of that. Hang in there. I know it's not easy. If it bipolar you want to start getting help now while he is young. It will make it so much easier.

I'm sure you've done your own research, but these are some great sites:
www.bpkids.org/site/PageServer
www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/bipolarupdate.cfm
www.keepkidshealthy.com/welcome/conditions/bipolar_disorder.html

Be very careful though, some people are quick to diagnosis it for an easy fix. You mentioned paranoia and hallucinations...does he get highs and lows?

Not to scare you, but has anyone mentioned the possibility of Schizophrenia:
www.aacap.org/page.ww?name=Schizophrenia+In+Children§ion=Facts+for+Families

You want to make sure that you get the right help. It could very well be extreme anxiety or a social phobia.

Hope you had a better weekend.
Thinking about you.
