Music

Last Nov the kids decided to become a band called "The Rockers". They made a big poster and set up a backdrop on my bed to hide the books behind it. They put some music on and danced and played to their sole audience: mom. They were very cute.

Today's theme is Dirty.

This picture was taken on a trip to Mt. Lassen, CA in 2002. Mt. Lassen is a national park. It is a dormant volcano and thus there is lots of volcanic ash on the ground. The kids of course are covered with it, much to their delight.

Photo Hunt - Funky

I had to really search through my photo collection to find this. This is a picture of Tim and I so, so many years ago. This isn't our normal attire. We had actually dressed up for a halloween party as a couple of rock stars. I think we did a pretty good job of it.

Today's photo hunt theme is creative. Ian made this last year in art and even entered it in the county fair. He got a ribbon for participating. They don't give awards for kids 8 and younger. He was 7 when he did this.

Today's photo hunt is shadows. I chose a picture I took of the Grand Canyon in 2005. I love the play of the shadows across the canyon.

The Saturday Photo Hunt for this week is Shiny. I had a little trouble with this one, but after thinking about it for a while (and rummaging through my stores of photos), I came across this one. The year is 2003 and Kristin had just finished reading her 100th book. The library gave her this beautiful medal and ribbon. She was very proud. And yes, I know it's Sunday. Better late than never!

This is my niece after a trip to Libby Lu. My daughter Kristin and my niece both love to go and have their hair done. When we travel to Atlanta, Libby Lu is always on the agenda.

Today's photo theme is art. This is a drawing my daughter did in the summer of 2004. She was 8 years old. She did it free style with only verbal guidance from my husband. While she hasn't submitted this to the county fair. She has submitted other pictures and won first place. She's a wonderful artist and seems to truly enjoy it.

Today's theme is colorful. I took this picture back in April of 2005 at Safari West. Safari West is located in Santa Rosa, CA. At Safari West you get on a safari vehicle and they drive you around a large preserve with free ranging African animals. It was amazing to be that close to the animals. A little safari right at home.

Today's photo hunt theme is five. Trying to think of something even remotely interesting I came up with the idea of 5 hands with 5 fingers. Has anyone ever wondered why we have 5 fingers and 5 toes on each hand and foot? Why cats and dogs and 5 digits on their paws? Why there are 5 bones in a bats wing?

The theme for today's photo is childhood. I grew up in Georgia, just south of Atlanta. As a child, one of our favorite activities was to collect fireflies in little glass jars. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay area, my children have not had the opportunity to see fireflies. In the summer of 2005 I took the kids to visit their grandma who still lives in Georgia. One warm evening the fireflies were everywhere. We all headed outside and the kids were just delighted. While the photo is not the best, I feel it captures their delight and amazement at these tiny little creatures. If you click on the picture, you should be able to see a couple of the fireflies near the bottom.

I had a little difficulty coming up with a picture for today's theme when my husband suggested I put up a picture of Juabite. After I rolled my eyes, he told me a little history about it and how he was involved. There are only about 20 of these specimens in the world. Now that's rare! This is a really good example of Juabite that my husband gave to his friend, Brent Thorne. Tim also gave a few to the Canadian National Museum who are the people who originally described the species.

Single triclinic crystal of juabite associated with lavendulan and parnauite from the Gold Chain Mine, Tintic District, Juab County, Utah. Collected by Dick Thomssen, recognized as unusual species by Tim Rose and XRD confirmed by Andy Roberts. Field of view, 0.5mm x 0.5mm. Brent Thorne specimen and photograph from Mindat Website.

Today's theme is steps. I took this picture last August at Pt. Reyes. It was a beautiful day though chilly. We had to walk all the way down these stairs to visit the light house (see the tiny circular building). That was the easy part. The hard part was climbing back up the stairs. Well, at least for me. The kids ran up them! Don't you wish you had that much energy?

The theme this week is Hobbies. I love taking pictures. My camera is always with me. My husband often tells me to put down the camera and enjoy myself, but what he doesn't understand is I AM. I can't think of anything better than recording the memories of our family.

We visited the Grand Canyon in 2005. It was amazing. I took so many pictures. This is one of our favorites.
